Some recent Event Reports from the Programme, 2009 and 2010.

Club BBQ
Sat 14th August
Just a little note to say that I had a great time at the Malt Shovel BBQ on Saturday night. Everybody looked like they enjoyed it. The music was great and the food was good value too - all finished off with good company. We even got to see Steve dance to ‘YMCA’ - what more could you ask for? Sue
Games Night
Sat 7th August
Just a short note to thank Bob for all the effort he put in to make such a great success of the Games Night at his house. It really was a superb evening. Brian
Visit to the Royal Academy of Arts
Sat 31st July
Thank you so much Chris for a great visit to this art gallery in Piccadilly - we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I even bought a painting myself! (It was actually from the market outside, which also sold some great value necklaces and earrings!) Thanks again for a great time. Brian
Summer evening marquee event
Sat 10th July
A very big thank you to Jenny for hosting the marquee event night in Swanley Village. For me, the evening turned out a little differently from what I expected - it was really pulsatingly enjoyable! The only downside was, that Jenny did not grace the front of the stage herself to take her eventual half share in the 'Stand Up Bingo' contested by at least 350 people! Thank you again for a great time Jenny. Bob
Eltham Palace visit
Sun 13th June
Thank you Gary for a relaxing and entertaining afternoon. Although you may have visited the Palace before it is always nice to revisit and see things that you had not noticed before. The company was good and it was such a fine sunny day. Great!! John
Blackheath kite & bicycle day
Sat 12th June
We had a good turnout of Socialites. The weather was dry but suitably windy, a bizarre array of kites filled the sky: a 20 foot jester; giant blue bear; black and white cat; and synchronised kite flying. The bikes were just as interesting: penny farthings; 4 wheeled bikes; trikes; and a fantastic mountain bike stunt team which jumped up on the roof of a Land Rover. Thanks John for a lovely day! Gary
New Members Evening
Tue 25th May
We had another great new members evening in May with seven new temporary members signing up on the evening. It was great to also see so many existing members and temporary members attending to welcome them. Well done team! Anne
Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens
Sun 9th May
A big thank you for a lovely Sunday visit to the, shortly to be closed-down, Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens; kindly arranged by Marie & Will.  The car share people did a great job plus Liz & Terry in reserving tables for all 12 of us in the tea rooms.  Much appreciated guys.  Barry
Sidcup Auctions

Sat 8th May

I would like to thank Brian for inviting members of Socialites to join him at the Sidcup Auction House. Wonderful antiques and bric a brac to be had, many at £5, so you needn't break the bank. We came away with some lovely bargains and Allan bought a huge copper pot which is too big to put anywhere! We can't wait for the next auction - many thanks Brian.  Margaret
Karaoke at Ye Olde Black Horse
Sat 24th April
I attended my first Socialite event in April – Karaoke, kindly arranged by Helen. I met some lovely people, made some new friends and had an absolutely brilliant evening. Really friendly pub and everybody spoke to you and made you welcome (not just Socialites). I did sing twice (something I hadn't done for 20 years or so) and it was a real buzz, but you don't have to sing - just come and support those that are, enjoy a drink and chat and a good evening. Highly recommended fun night out. Wendy
Crayford Dogs Party Pack

Sat 3rd April
I would like to thank John for hosting an exceptional night at the Dogs, and for putting up with four very playful women completely on his own - he deserves a medal for his gallantry.  And hopefully he is prepared for the next Party night - which we are looking forward to.  Many Thanks John - you were a perfect Gentleman.  Cheers! Shirley
New Year's Day Walk

Fri 1st Jan
2010
Jan 1st walkers - it was cold! What a lovely way to bring in the New Year! Janet and Ian's walk was well thought out and planned, even the weather made it special. We had lovely panoramic views of a Kent village snuggled in the snow with the sun shining down. Fortunately there was no snow, just very good company while we were walking. To top the whole day a pre-booked table with lovely food for us all to just squeeze into a very busy pub. Thanks so much Janet and Ian. Tina

Picture to the right shows four of us. Note the headgear. It was cold but we were still smiling! Steve
New Year's Eve Party
Thur 31st Dec
What a great New year's Eve Party. Nothing was spared, party poppers, balloons and whistle blowers together with a free glass of bubbly as midnight struck. A big thank you to Tony and Maggy (and the rest of the community hall committee) for arranging this wonderful night. Terry & Liz
Tudor Banquet at Hall Place
Sat 12th Dec
Well, all we can say is thank you for a very enjoyable evening at the Tudor Banquet. It was so authentic with the costumes, food and entertainment that we thought we were transported back to the 16th century. So a big thank you to Gary and lets do it again next year! Terry & Liz
Bowling at the Megabowl
Fri 18th Sept
There was a big turn-out, two groups of six players for each lane, plus spectators. It was a great evening highlighted by a Turkey from Peter at the 11th hour with Mike close on his heels. In the meantime Shirley was wowing the other lane. It’s such a good ice-breaker that even the quietest of people have to join in! Thanks Mike for a great evening! Gill
Cycle ride:
The Crab & Winkle Way

Sun 30th Aug
10 riders gathered at the starting point, assembled their machines and steadied their nerve. Then, in a haze of WD40 and Deep Heat, they were off! The climb to Clowes Wood was endured, so were binding brakes, jumped chains, a missed sign post, and sore bottoms; but we all made it - to Canterbury and back! Then on, to a nearby pub for Sunday lunch, and a stroll around the harbour. Thank you for all who participated and enjoyed the fun. Steve
Club BBQ

Sat 15th Aug
Just to say how much we enjoyed the BBQ on Saturday. The Malt Shovel is an ideal venue for a BBQ and the food was delicious, especially the fruit salad, and the entertainment really got everyone in the party mood. It was also excellent value for money. Congratulations on such a great event. Billie and Colin (Socialite guests))
Thames Sightseeing Cruise
Sun 9th Aug
It was a lovely end to a summer’s day, an evening boat trip along the Thames. It’s amazing how different things look from the river, so much more romantic, with the sounds of our fellow passengers and the enlightening commentary from the captain. Thanks Tina and Andy for arranging this wonderful event.Gill
Plumstead's Got Talent

Sat 1st Aug
I'm sure I got as much pleasure from this event as anyone. It’s lovely to share my home with such a great bunch of people. Socialites create a warm, friendly atmosphere where people can get to know each other a little more. Wonderful to listen to the buzz! Always offers of help clearing up, so I can recommend it to anyone else who's thinking of putting on a home event. Feel the fear and do it anyway! Thanks for all the fantastic contributions. Maggy. (The music group enjoyed it immensely too – it’s great to be part of such a fun evening, Steve)
