Some recent Event Reports from the 2011 and 2012 Programmes

The Conservative Club, New Eltham
Sat 14th January
What a great evening , there were 25 + Socialites and 15+ MGR, it was packed but a great atmosphere with the superb young male crooner singer and of course our dancing expertise to enlighten and amuse everyone. Stimulating conversations were had by all, albeit “pardon” & “what did you say” were the classic lines of the night. Many thanks to Dave and Ken for organising this. Anne
New Year’s Eve Disco I'd just like to thank Karen for organising tickets for the New Year’s Eve Disco at the Acacia & say what an absolutely great evening it turned out to be for the members who attended. It was so nice to see the New Year in with such a great crowd of friends! Thank you, Frances
Bob Hope Theatre evening
Sat 19th November
Many thanks to Chris for putting this event on, a thoroughly enjoyable show, our feet couldn't stop tapping! Terry & Liz
Turkey & Tinsel
Sat 19th November
The Mowtown played and I sang along with Bernie graciously listening and even singing too! The journey went quick and we arrived at the Queens Hotel Eastbourne safely, I got my wish to have a bubble bath and a nap to re-energise ready for the party. Xmas dinner was lovely with interesting conversation and Bob the wine waiter attending. Even better the fact that I did not have to cook it! The disco started slowly for the oldies but we soon got going and danced the night away. I managed to have a quick cool down on the beach with the Pier all lit up and beautiful. It went all too soon and in a blink of an eye it was a four course breakfast to send us on our journey, I was sorry that I could not stay longer, thank you Karen and Bob for organising a lovely break away and I even lost a few pounds with good food, relaxation and dancing. Gill
Japanese Birthday Party
Sat 12th November
Many thanks to Sadie for her Japanese themed birthday party. Good food, company, entertainment and educational; Sadie looked lovely in her kimono. Once again Sadie "ALIGATO"Liz & Terry

Oh hi OO -that is a greeting in Japanese that I learnt at the party, Sadie was a very welcoming hostess in a beautiful relaxing home (I think I will ask her to come and Fen Shi my home). Lovely Japanese food was served and I met some more interesting Japanese ladies, we watched a short video on Japan and it is a very lush picturesque country. Thank you for an entertaining, enlightening evening. Happy birthday and Si an na ra. Gill
Chill at Gill’s Games Evening
Sat 1st October
I had a great time at Gill Ray’s games evening, good company, lots of laughs, and plenty of fun (and games)! When's the next one?" Chris
Club BBQ
Sat 20th August
This was a well-attended and very enjoyable event at the Oxleas Cafe. Particular thanks go to Bob who worked very hard by researching the venue, making all the arrangements with the management, supervising ticket sales, providing the sound system and changing the CD's. Also to Belinda who, on a key evening, kept the ticket sales going single handed. Peter
Lingfield Park Races
Sat 6th August
Thank you to Andy for arranging the trip to the races at Lingfield on 6th August. Turned out to be a pleasant sunny evening with a good atmosphere, great company and in some cases very lucrative. A thank you from the race goers. Jean
Ephesus Restaurant &
Brewers Fayre Sidcup
Fri 29th & Sat 30th July
I attended a lovely Turkish meal, tried food I had never eaten before and all with interesting communication - thanks to Alison and Louise. However no gentlemen attended, and guys you really missed out as after our main course, a belly dancer came in looking absolutely stunning, danced around the tables and with the customers.

The next evening, I went to the meal at Brewers Fayre Sidcup, thanks to Bruna. We were allocated our own area, the food was yummy and good value for money, and very nice conversation with people in the same point in life as me. Thanks Ladies for organising the evenings. Gill

Around 20+ people turned up for this very interesting and informative tour around Winchelsea. It was well worth the journey down and we couldn't have asked for better weather. Liz and Terry
Arty Party
Sat 28th May
Dear Maggy, It's that time again to thank you on behalf of all present for being so instrumental in orchestrating ( puns intended ) a wonderful evening. Everyone, thanks to your generous hospitality had a great time- it was quite simply poetic, literal and musical. Some of us even had a smashing (plates) time! Whether ' Forest Green ' or just plain brown, you painted the canvas upon which all gathered so colourfully adorned. Bob

I had a great time at my/our Arty Party in May. We raised £52 which has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. This includes the sale of copies of Hilda Norden's delightful poetry book. Thank you everyone. Maggy
Bowling night
Fri 27th May
I was given a challenge, I only had to get one strike and another player would put an event on! I improved greatly but did not manage a strike. But was a club record set?? Andy bowled 8 strikes! So now the bar has been set who can beat it? I had a great time and lots of laughs with the guys, who as usual outnumbered the ladies. Next time I’ll use the bumpers! Gill
Allan's Surprise Birthday Meal

Fri 21st Jan
A brief note to thank Mike,on behalf of all the bowlers, for all his hard work putting on this event every month, and we hope you feel better now. Also a big well done to Jo for winning a Game with a score of 119. All that secret training has paid off! Shirley
Alexander Suite Jive dance
Well my first Saturday evening event since becoming unattached again, no one rang, sigh! I thought, well shall go out on my own? Then at the eleventh hour Mary rang up and away we went. Two more turned up at the Alexander Suite Jive dance and what a great time I had. It started with a Roulette dance that I had never done before, spinning and changing partners. In the middle I danced with the twice UK champion and at the end with the Socialite chaps. You only need some good company to have a good time! Gill
Sunday Walk from Aylesford
Sun 16th January
We all met outside the little Gem pub in the quaint village of Aylesford, at noon. It was a bright and dry day with a 5 1/2 mile walk ahead of us. Initially we walked a few paths, until we passed a large quarry lake and into the countryside. About half way, we ascended a steep hill which took us to a car park with a fantastic view over the Kent countryside. We stopped to get our breath, for a break, half a mars bar and a satsuma (thanks Roger), before the descent down Bluebell Hill. We all made it back safely. Then it was on to the harvester for dinner and drinks. A great day out, thanks Roger! A different Roger
New Year Sunday Ramble
Sun 2nd January
Fourteen of us set off on a mild morning from the village of Meopham. The going was muddy in some places but well worth effort to enjoy the rolling countryside and each others company. The walk certainly refreshed us after all the festive activities. Thanks go to Ian and Janet. Belinda
